Günter Bauer (Mödling, Austria,1971) studied Industrial Design Engineering at Delft University of Technology and graduated in 1998. His professional career began at Albert Heijn, where he worked on innovative checkout concepts. In 2001, Finishing Dutch was founded. Since then, we have been involved in a wide range of retail and design projects for clients in the Netherlands and abroad, including Albert Heijn, Etos, Bouwcenter, Fressnapf, Eurogast, Migros, Megazoo, Der Grissemann and Mars.

Between 2006 and 2010, Günter was Creative Director at Jos de Vries TRC, leading and developing shop design projects across Europe. To this day, we continue to collaborate with Studio JDV on selected projects.

Sharing knowledge has always been an essential part of how we work. For many years, Günter provided design tutoring at Delft University of Technology and continues to exchange ideas through lectures, conferences and professional juries, such as the Süsser Stern of SG Network. This mindset naturally extends into our daily practice, where close collaboration with freelancers, clients and stakeholders is an integral part of the process — shaping ideas together and applying creativity where it truly matters.

Since 2010, Finishing Dutch has been led by Günter and Gertrud, working on retail design and architecture projects. Over the years, the studio has grown into a versatile and creative design practice, further enriched in recent years by Gertrud’s expertise in building history. In every project, our shared ambition is to add real value through a thoughtful, creative and context-driven design approach.
